MY PHILOSOPHY:
You probably have noticed that this page is titled "About Me" instead of About Us. The most important thing to know about me is that I believe in honesty and fairness, quality not quantity. I am a sole proprietor so there is no reason to try and mislead you into thinking One Dot Webs is an "us."
If you want the personal attention you deserve, then allow One Dot Webs to be your solution. What sets me apart from the dozens of other web design companies is that I will only take on projects that I can personally give 100% to, so that your website is up and running on Internet in a timely manner. You will not be waiting months to see what you have paid for.
I would rather have satisfied clients that will be my best advertising than to mislead or promise work I can't deliver.
UNIQUELY QUALIFIED:
While some people have only one career during their lifetime, I feel very fortunate to have had many amazing jobs and have always kept my options open for new opportunities. These are a few of the highlights that have brought me to this point.
I was an editor for TV Guide in the mid-80's. At that time, I did not feel I was a good writer but yet I was assigned the Los Angeles edition. Sometimes experience under fire proves the most beneficial.
I was an executive secretary with McDonnell Douglas before they merged with Boeing. Secretary, you say? Despite my official title, I had the experience of working within a company of over 40,000 employees. You definitely learn patience and how to adjust to many different personalities. It also allowed me to be a part of history when I was invited on a test flight of one of the first MD-11 aircraft.
I was hired in Human Resources at the Scripps Research Institute where I was given the assignment of managing their Novell network even though my title was again administrative assistant. Although I did not have any formal technical education, they saw I had a willingness to expand beyond my job description and learn what was needed. A "can-do" attitude goes a long way in becoming successful.
Before most people had cell phones, Nokia Mobile Phones gave me another great opportunity. I should probably say I "went after" the opportunity. They were hiring engineers faster than they could find them but I noticed they never had job ads for support personnel. I wanted in on that industry so got creative and within a week, I was in! Once again, my job title was executive assistant. Typical assistant tasks were quickly shuffled to other people as I took on facilities planning, setting up the company's phone system for over 200 employees, writing and teaching computer software classes, and assisting the IT department. Once they saw my technical abilities, I was asked to create a company Intranet for the San Diego division. This was prior to any of today's user-friendly web design software. All we had was raw HTML coding but I quickly learned what was necessary.
In the mid-90's, I took a break from working to stay home and raise our son but when he was about two years old, my husband was laid off. Without knowing how long that situation might last, I immediately went out and fortunately, found a job in one day. I was hired to start a marketing department for a computer software company. Designing their first website and print material was a large part of that.
In 2005, entrepreneurship took a very different turn when our nine-year-old son started his own business, Pencil Bugs. Helping him manage, market and promote his business has been an exciting experience.
Since my days with TV Guide, I have been writing stories, articles, and poetry for various publications. In 2008, I co-wrote and edited my mom's memoirs and helped her self-publish. In 2010, our son also published his first book which added to my writing and editing experience. I continue to help other authors with their self-publishing projects by offering seminars and I am working on publishing a children's book series of my own.
With my years of varied experience and skills, I feel I am uniquely qualified to provide a valuable service for you and I think you'll be satisfied with the results.
In addition to some extremely fun jobs through the years, I also hold a hairdresser license (for the creative part in me) and a paralegal degree (for the part that likes to research and never gives up.)
